Costco Sockeye Salmon Has a Live Worm?!?

As I was opening my package of fresh-caught wild sockeye salmon from Costco, I noticed something white wigging around...what appeared to be some kind of worm! Yikes! Some people say it's normal for fish to have worms (if they're still alive, it means the fish is really fresh?) and others claim it's not. I didn't know what to do...what would YOU do?!? I ended up returning the fish to Costco. It was probably okay to eat, but I was too icked out to feed it to my kiddies. The folks at Costco were super-nice about it and I got my money back. Jmichael Isbell: The very BEST sushi houses in the world, ALWAYS flash freeze and thaw. But, the WAY some people freeze can cause a problem, like leaving it out before freezing, or holding it in the refrigerator for a few days, THEN freezing. But the best approach is to get the meat dead on fresh, and immediately flash freeze. There is a famous Sushi house in New York, open 24/7 and people pay a fortune to eat there. By law and by good science, they flash freeze in a super cold freezer, then thaw each day as needed, people swear by the "freshness" of the Sushi, but it was frozen to insure it's safety. If you want safety on the other end, high heat cooking works as well. NO "medium rare" crap though; there are tables available on line to show you what temp/how long/thickness of fish fillet; follow the freeze rules and/or the cooking rules and you will be OK. YES, there are fishes known to NOT carry worms, those are the "Pelagic" fishes, like the tuna family and so on. I know guys who take a tuna on their boat, prep it right then and there, and eat it raw--not me, but I do see their point, as those fishes are just not likely to be carrying a worm.
